Now that the Mac version of Skype supports public chats I thought I'd explore whether there's any interest in having one for this group.

Thanks to Michel Gondry's latest flick "Be Kind Rewind" fan films are back in the spotlight.

Do you think this will create a larger audience for what we've talked about in this group?

"Rejoice: the embrace of “openness” by firms that have grown fat on closed, proprietary technology is something we’ll see more of in 2008."

So says The Economist....

Let's hope the same applies for Hollywood as well.

Happy new year everyone. Keep on on re-mixing!

This article in the current issue of Wired is an exciting insight into how dojinshi - nonprofessional self-published manga - is flourishing alongside original work.

Assignment Zero is a Wired Magazine sponsored collaborative journalism project to track and report on crowdsourcing projects.

I did this interview a few weeks ago, talking about the delays to the release of Sanctuary and the change in direction for MOD Films.

http://zero.newassignment.net/filed/interview_michela_ledwidge_modfilms

Yahoo!7 Answers (what a mouthful) is running a competition to suggest how AU$50K could be put to use in Oz for a sustainable project in conjunction with an established environmental organisation. I've put in an entry for Sanctuary.

Vote thumbs up for post 111 (the one by .M.) to support us getting help with the re-remixable release!

Thanks to everyone who came along to support the little Open Business talk I gave at Corbet's Place on Fri. Nice to see re-mixable film bods in the crowd and meet some of you in the flesh for the first time!

For everyone else - MOD Films, the biz, is going through a major change in direction to focus much more clearly on a generic web platform and services. This has the benefit of making the work a lot more relevent to more people but it has held up the completion and release of original titles.

I do appreciate that we haven't exactly delivered on what you wanted most out of this group - a mass of re-mixable assets. All I can say is that everything is moving forward, albeit a lot slower than expected. But then again, according to industry pundits, we may be SIX YEARS away from a re-mixable film paradigm. I think it's a helluva lot closer, don't you?

"Why don't you just release the material you have?"

That's exactly why the platform is taking centre stage now, over and above any title. In an age where the average attention span for new things is less than 5 seconds, providing convenient access to film assets (convenient for creators, re-mixers and non-techies) is no small task.

Keep the feedback coming, if there's no community there's no point.

Cheers
.M.
